A few months ago, iRobot unveiled the Roomba S9+. As the latest upgraded robovac from iRobot, you can expect the Roomba S9+ to pack unique, exciting features! According to the manufacturer, this model boasts of the suction power of 22 CFM (cu ft. /min), making it 40 times stronger than the models in the 600 series.

This model has many of the same components as the i7+, but the design is different. The S9+ is the first Roomba with a D-shape body. The dual brushes are now located at the front of the vacuum, unlike traditional Roombas. For that, the brushes are 30% longer, and they provide a broader pick-up. Hence, the results are shorter cleaning cycles and fewer repetitions.

What makes the S9+ the best Roomba for long hair or for double-coated dogs is its dual spinning brush roll. The brushes are less susceptible to tangle because they are made of rubber, which flexes to keep in constant contact with the floor.

iRobot also calls their new, improved corner brush Perfect 8Edge cleaning. The brushes are short and soft-bristled and sit at a 27-degree angle.

This unit equips a 3300 mAh lithium-ion battery, which provides up to 120 minutes of cleaning time. The runtime is long enough for the robovac to clean large rooms before it docks back to its charging station.

The bot remembers the area it cleaned last and will resume cleaning there. The charging time is a bummer, though. It will take up to four hours for the battery to juice up.

The Roomba S9+ boasts of the most advanced tech in robot vacuums. This robot uses iRobot’s vSLAM® technology to evaluate its surrounding 25 times per second. This feature will help the bot avoid collisions in time.

Additionally, this robovac comes with four sensors to identify empty spaces and cliff sensors to prevent falling off the stairs.

The S9+ also can memorize the layout of your home, thanks to its Imprint™ Smart Mapping feature. The bot can create digital maps that you can later assign names for specific zone cleaning.

Similar to the Roomba i7+, the charging base of this model comes with a disposable dust bag, which collects dirt deposits from the robovac. The dust bag on the dock can also hold up to 30 loads of debris. As expected, this product is equipped with a HEPA filter to combat allergies.

Although the product does not include a remote control, you can control the bot via the iRobot Home app. Through the app, you can give cleaning commands, choose the days you want your robovac to clean rooms, view sweeping progress and maintenance alerts, among others.

You can also integrate Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa for voice control.

Before the S9+ came along, the iRobot Roomba i7+ was my favorite. iRobot had set a high bar when they released this model. The i7+ is the first robovac in the world that can empty its own bin!

The base will suck all the accumulated contaminants out of the robot’s bin and empties it into a purse at the top of the hub. Each bag holds 30 bins of pet hair, dirt, dust, and other pollutants. Therefore, you will no longer have to spend time surfing over your garbage and breathe in the airborne contaminants that your vacuum cleaner has accumulated.

Moreover, the Roomba i7+ claims to have 10 times the suction power compared to previous models. But to maximize cleaning, you have to give the i7+ enough time to figure out its way around your house. The first few runs almost caused my impatient self to regret my purchase. The bot would enter a room in one path, clean, stop, and head towards a different area.

I fail to realize that the vacuum was merely making a “training run.” After the bot mapped out our humble abode, I can view the map via the iRobot Home app to make changes. The app allows me to erect virtual boundaries and give each room a name.

To control the i7+, you only need to download the iRobot Home app for your Android or Apple device. Connecting the robovac to my phone and Wi-Fi network was smooth sailing. Take note that it helps to install the app, as it will guide you through the initial setup. Once you rename a floor plan and have a smart hub connected to your app, you can just say, “Alexa, clean Barky’s room,” and it will head there.

The mapping feature of the i7+ is worth the wait, as it does a stellar job at keeping our home tidy. It also winds itself around my dogs’ food and water stations. With its enhanced navigational skills, the bot can remember up to 10 different floor plans.

Not to mention it highlights a 3-Stage Cleaning System that cleans pet hair, dander, dirt, and invisible particles, among others.

In 2018, iRobot released the e-series to address the specific needs of pet parents.

Currently, there are two models for the e-series: the Roomba e-5 and the Roomba e-6.

The e-5 and the e-6 share standard features and functionalities. The only difference is the in-box accessories that come with each unit.

The e-5 includes the bot itself, an electrical cord for charging, a charging station, and the owner’s documentation.
On the other hand, the e-6 offers the same, plus an extra filter and two additional virtual wall barriers.

Any of the two robots is a good fit if you like cleaning by schedule. Even if you are not looking, you can rest assured the bots are doing an excellent job on their own.

Both units connect you to your Wi-Fi network, so you can use the iRobot Home App via your smartphone. The software will allow you to view your robot’s progress while you make tea.

The e-5 and the e-6 have robust wheels, which allow them to transition from bare floors to carpets. Likewise, both units perform well in cleaning various indoor floor types. Each model works well in corners, too.

Despite the lack of Smart Mapping, the navigation for each model is still more than sufficient for a majority of homes with pets. Sure, it is a far cry from the Roomba i7+! But it does a great job, considering the price.

If you only need to reclaim your house from a horde of dust bunnies, perhaps spending a thousand bucks on a robot vacuum is too much.

What I like the most about the 890 is that it operates at 66.2 decibels, which is similar to a normal conversation.

The product also includes dual-mode virtual barriers in case there are places in your home; you do not want the bot to enter. You can order more if you have more areas to block, such as your dog’s food and water stations.

By the way, the Roomba 890 is a self-charging vacuum and returns to its dock whenever it is in need of a recharge. The bot runs for around 60 minutes and takes about three hours to charge. Although it has a shorter battery life than its siblings, it works great for most homes.
